When I continued to see many patients return to the Emergency time and time again with reoccurring health issues, I became concerned that medicine was reactive and not proactive. People were going home to recover, but not necessarily with the tools and information they needed for life-long health and happiness. I believe that health coaching can provide a bridge between follow up PCP care and exploring healthy options that truly can set the stage for preventing reoccurring and ongoing illnesses.
Teaching patients requires time and coaching. Improving lifestyle choices with the right methods not only to modify habits and learn healthier choices can be confusing and frustrating. And, even more important, what is right for one person is not necessarily right for another.
